SUMMARY:Truffle Microscopy Workshop: Testing your Tree Roots for Colonization
DESCRIPTION:Workshop Overview:\n\n\n\n \n\n\n\n\n\n\n\nJoin Dr. Inga Meadows and Andy Cooper\, with the support of Dr. Jeanine Davis and Katie Learn\, for a full-day\, hands-on workshop focused on selecting\, cleaning\, and identifying mycorrhizal colonization on truffle tree roots. Whether you’re a grower\, an enthusiast\, ready to purchase trees\, an extension agent\, or a researcher\, this is your chance to learn how to determine if truffle tree roots in the orchard or nursery have indication of Tuber spp. using professional lab equipment and guided instruction. \n\n\n\nWhat you’ll learn: \n\n\n\n\nHow to clean\, prepare\, and examine roots\n\n\n\nDissecting microscope training\n\n\n\nIdentification of Tuber spp. vs. ECM vs. NC morphologies\n\n\n\nUsing FTA cards to stabilize DNA for lab analysis\n\n\n\n\nMicroscopes and all materials (including root tips) will be provided. You may also use this opportunity to bring your own roots and examine them for Tuber spp. colonization. \n\n\n\nRoot collection and transportation tips will be sent to attendees. \n\n\n\nMorning refreshments and lunch will be provided. \n\n\n\nSponsored by the NC Department of Agriculture & Consumer Services\, NC Specialty Crop Block Grant Program. \n\n\n\nSpeaker\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n	\n\n\n \n\n\n\n	\n\n Inga Meadows\n\n Extension Plant Pathologist \n\n	\n\n	\n \n Inga Meadows is an Extension Plant Pathologist for the North Carolina State University Vegetables (primarily tomato) & Herbaceous Ornamentals\, Department of Entomology & Plant Pathology. She addresses disease issues for commercial vegetables & greenhouse growers by providing recommendations for disease prevention or suppression. Her program conducts research aimed at improving tools for managing disease. \n\n \n	\n\n	\n \n\n\n	\n \n\n\n\n	\n\n\n \n\n\n\n	\n\n Jeannine Davis\n\n Associate Professor and Extension Specialist \n\n	\n\n	\n \n Jeanine Davis is an extension specialist at North Carolina State University\, where she plays a crucial role in supporting truffle growers.
