| Description: | The initial phase of the USDA- Specialty Crop Research Initiative (SCRI) was the Request for Application which was approved and awarded on 4/15/2022. The next phase was to complete the Application for the Planning Grant, which was submitted on 5/9/2022. This Planning grant if awarded will give us the opportunity to prepare and apply for the USDA-SCRI in 2024 which will provide significant funding for grower research based upon critical needs solicited via survey of the Grower Association. |

| Data sharing: | Upon being awarded the SCRI Planning Grant communication and objectives will be presented at the annual 2022 Congress in Roanoke. The critical needs as defined above will be assigned to one of our 22 collaborating scientist and researchers who are throughout North America. Those scientist with there teams will do a deep dive into the current research. They will then analyze, synthesize and present all the pertinent scientific date to NATGA via webinars or in person at annual congresses. These research groups and the collaborators and cohorts will meet in the summer of 2023 for a grant planning meeting. The goal of that meeting will be to submit a grant application to USDA for a larger award to fund actual research in North American at Grower sites. |
